Transfer program
Transfer of Credits
A unique characteristic of American higher education is the transfer system that allows credits from one institution to transfer to another. It is not uncommon for students to transfer two or three times while studying for an undergraduate degree.
The students who earn credits at the American College may transfer those credits to numerous colleges and universities in the US and elsewhere. These credits will count towards an undergraduate degree at a majority of American universities. The American College will assist students in finding admission at the appropriate universities. Since many American College students take classes year-round, they are able to transfer to the US and other countries in less than two years.
The Transfer Process
Credits earned at one institution are transferable and acceptable as credits towards a degree at another institution. Colleges and universities in the United States will generally accept credits from other institutions as long as the student has earned a "C" grade or better in the subject and so far as the institution to which student transfers has an equivalent subject in its course curriculum. It should be noted, however, that the transfer process is not automatic, since each institution has different requirements for different degrees which students must meet.
Choosing a University
Choosing a university in the USA to complete a degree is a personal matter and much of it depends upon the aim, objectives and abilities of the individual applicant. The choice of a university depends upon the needs of the student and requirements of the university and therefore the American College places great importance on guiding and assisting students with the transfer process.
Students wishing to apply to degree-granting institutions in the USA must meet their respective entry requirements. The American College provides advising and counseling to all transferring students and helps them with the paperwork involved. Students are advised to follow the recommendation of the American College when making their decisions as to where to transfer. Expert information is necessary to make this decision and this information is best obtained from the staff of the American College who have had years of experience transferring students abroad. It is very important for students attending all BC affiliates including American College to understand that transfer is not automatic and that they may not be accepted by a particular college or university for a variety of reasons. While students with good academic records almost always succeed in transferring to a quality US institution, no guarantee can be given for admission to any specific college or university that does not have a transfer agreement with the American College.
Transferring to Canada
Since Canadian Universities follow, except in a few cases, a system similar to that of the USA, it is relatively easy for students to transfer to Canada. A growing percentage of students are showing interest in Canadian universities, and a number of our students have transferred to York University, University of Ottawa, Simon Fraser University and University of Windsor.
Transferring to Other Countries
Transfer of credits can usually be made to US-style institutions in other countries, including Lebanon, the UAE, Egypt and Japan. However, students must meet the entry requirements of these institutions, including their standards in regard to secondary school credentials, before transfer credits will be accepted. Those who wish to transfer to British universities and polytechnics should note that they usually require two or more Advanced-Level subjects for admission. |
